PXM Designed for Growth

Steelcase

Datmos helped Steelcase, the world’s largest office furniture manufacturer, implement Akeneo Product Cloud to modernize its PIM and solve complex, manual product data management across regions.

Working as lead implementation partner, Datmos rebuilt the product catalog architecture and collaborated closely with Steelcase’s PIM team to deploy a scalable PXM-aligned solution.

Following launch, Steelcase achieved a 67% increase in product data management efficiency and reduced time per product family by over 63%.

Client

Steelcase is the world’s largest office furniture manufacturer, with 11,300 employees in 80+ countries and $3.2B in revenue. For over a century, it has designed and manufactured an expansive range of furnishings and solutions for the many ways people work in the many places where work happens: offices, homes and learning and health environments.

Challenge

Steelcase wanted to improve its product information management system to provide better support for its extensive catalogue of finishes, materials and regional data. Its previous system made tasks such as linking digital assets and managing supplier data time-consuming and difficult to scale up. Teams often had to rely on manual updates across multiple regions, which increased complexity.

In order to streamline operations, the company aimed to implement a modern PIM solution that was aligned with the best practices of product experience management (PXM). A key priority was to secure business user adoption to ensure long-term success. This shift will enable Steelcase to reduce time-to-market, enhance data consistency, deliver more connected customer experiences and drive meaningful business growth.

Approach

As Akeneo’s top North American partner, Datmos collaborated closely with the client’s Product Information Management (PIM) team to successfully implement Akeneo Product Cloud. The solution was designed to centralize product data, automate asset management, and streamline supplier collaboration with the Supplier Data Manager (SDM) tool. Datmos also configured workflows to accelerate product enrichment and reduce time-to-market for new releases. By setting clear KPIs and ensuring team adoption, we helped establish a scalable foundation for product experience management (PXM) based on data accuracy, operational efficiency, and long-term growth.

Centralized Product Data and Automated Asset Management

Datmos, hand in hand with the Product Data team at Steelcase, led the end-to-end implementation of Akeneo Product Cloud for Steelcase, creating a scalable, centralized solution to manage complex product data. Our team configured key capabilities like Supplier Data Manager, automated asset linking, and multi-regional catalog structures.

By aligning taxonomy, data governance, and enrichment workflows across internal and external teams, we improved data accuracy and reduced manual processes. Steelcase now operates with a single source of truth, eliminating spreadsheets and manual uploads. Automated linking of assets like images and swatches ensures consistency and efficiency, allowing teams to focus on high-value work and deliver faster, more accurate product updates across channels.

Before Akeneo and Datmos, managing our data was entirely dependent on IT, with business users unable to make updates independently. Today, thanks to Akeneo, both internal and external business users can seamlessly manage and enrich data without any technical support. This shift has empowered our teams, streamlined collaboration, and freed IT to focus on high-value initiatives.

Streamlined Supplier Data Management with SDM

Steelcase leveraged Akeneo’s Supplier Data Manager (SDM) to transform the way supplier data is processed and imported. Instead of spending hours manually inputting data, the system now cleanses and validates data before ingestion into Akeneo, allowing Steelcase to achieve a 62% reduction in annual time spent loading supplier data, from 33.36 hours to just 12.14 hours.

Optimized Time-to-Market for Product Releases

With automated workflows and improved data accuracy, Steelcase significantly accelerated the time-to-market for new products, including:

63.64%
decrease in time spent per product family, cutting it from 22 minutes to just 8 minutes.
63.61%
reduction in product release hours, from 16.68 hours per release to just 6.07 hours.

Enhanced Multi-Regional Product Management

Steelcase also addressed the inefficiencies in managing multi-regional finish records. Instead of manually updating data across different regions, Akeneo now synchronizes updates in real-time, resulting in a 67% increase in efficiency when managing key product details across multi-regional finish records.
